Unanimous. [*OX] arrives - [DJA] door policy -> admission to door -> asking questions of applicants acceptable questions; what questioning is supposed to acomplish; who asks the questions; improving the system. - [DJA]'s rant is below: We ask door applicants a lot of questions. I don't think they are actually useful for vetting applicants. For example, applicants are always asked: - Would you be comfortable in kicking someone out of the room even if they are your friend? - A token questions about cleanliness: "Will you empty the bins?" * Who is ever going to answer "no" to this? They don't provide any useful information to us in deciding how to vote, so why do we bother asking? Additionally, promising to do something doesn't imply that you're actually going to do it. To further illustrate the point, here's another question Mitch asked: - Can you name 4 other door members who have been in the club in the past 14 days? * This is arbitrary and not particularly helpful. Knowing other door members doesn't make you a good door member. => We are asking closed questions that invite a specific response. If we're going to ask questions, they need to be open questions. The only question we currently ask that is open is "Why do you want to be on door?" => Moreover, the best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour. We should stop asking questions about what a putative door member /will/ do, we think about what a putative door member /has done/, and decide based on that. This prevents us being distracted by empty assurances. It also makes applying to door less about obvious answers to arbitrary questions, and more about actually being useful. - A "LOLDOG" is suggested - Largely Online Door Official Grading. - We need to form the questions well. - Questions on door procedure. - [DJA] to write questions and email committee@ - [OX*] purchase a vice. !!! Warning given to [CJS], making a terrible pun. !!! [CJS] now has a total of 1 warning. - [BOB] has been looking for a vice, we have already voted on this and approved. - [OX*] buy another pair of needle nose pliers. - No-one seconds. - [MRD] reimburse $39.00 for renewing UCC domain - [CJS] seconds, 6 for, 1 not-against. Motion passed. Current Action Items -------------------- - [DJA] to write questions for LOLDOG Current Warning Counts ---------------------- - [DJA] has 1 warning. - [CJS] has 1 warning.
